Subject: RE: Nitrogen from Soybeans

East central Iowa, Camanche, Iowa
Rule of thumb is a minimum of 40 lbs of N credit. Some people use a 1lb per bu of yield up to a certain level.

It is not so much that the soybeans leave behind nitrogen, it is more the lack of competition for available N because of less residue the next season. Less residue means less food for the microbes, less microbes means less competition for available N (soil and applied).
