high cash rent, its the little young punks who havent experienced rough times that are bidding up the land. It maybe that they feel that if grains stay low they can just walk away. After all they dont have a reputation and family history to protect.
Wow, any "young punk" that is farming is farming with their dad/uncle/grandpa... No way to get into farming without having a family already in the game. Their family reputation is on the line. So at what age is a person old enough to try and rent ground without being a young punk? Being a young farmer, I just want to point out that the young guys are stuck paying high rent because they have to compete with the BTOs to rent any new ground. I haven't had anyone stopping by the farm and asking me if I am looking for some ground to farm lately. Landlords don't care about you being a young farmer trying to get started, it's all about the money to them. Just my 2 cents
