We have an 1981, 835, it has about 6900hrs and we literally have only had to change the water pump at around 3700hrs. It has been a great tractor, we haven't done anything to the engine, BUT, we have never worked it hard, it is usually only puttering around pulling harrows, a small disc, or rollers. We only run it around 1600-1800 RPM, we never have to run it wide open, so this has probably been very easy on the engine and driveline. The shift linkage can get sloppy and if you don't take your time when changing gears, it can get jammed. Not hard to fix, just a 2X4 with the tractor turned and knock the shifter out of gear, standing at the articulation point looking under the cab at the tranny. I don't find it loud and with an air ride seat it's comfortable enough, but to some people who are used to new everything, I am sure it would be uncomfortable. All in all, it has been a really good tractor for us, but it has been babied.
