| I believe they used the term "3G" to refer to any cell signal - using the term 3G since that what the majority by far connect with these days. My iPhone 4 will send and receive texts even if my signal has dropped off to 1G - and I'm willing to bet that iMessage will work the same way.
Regardless, your BB's DO need to be connected to something - even a low rate cell signal - in order to work. Text messaging does not require much of a signal to work. Most text messages go through even if the signal is too poor to talk on - and this is a common trait among just about any cell phone out there. | |
