Your local shop should have good recommendations as to the actual hardware- It will cost a bit more, but the service thereafter will (should) be unbeatable.
If you like HP printers, check out Officejet 6500 and 8500 printers. I have the 6500 and like it a lot. The 8500 is faster and has better(cheaper/sheet) ink cartridges. Sometimes wish I'd bought the 8500 for those reasons. The 6500 is pretty economical, as well. I don't print a bunch, so I probably made the right choice (I like that mine is physically smaller).
