Subject: This year's elevator shrink for beans: $/bu over actual shrink

C IL
I am calculating the return to adding more bins on paper, and showing return for the bins we are thankful to already have.

I tabulated elevator excess shrink for wet beans and foregone sale of water due to beans sold below 13%. I compared that to theoretical shrink using the (100-MC)/87 method, and also the 1.2% per point method (they were off 1.8 bu from each other over 50k bushels - thanks Excel).

Any guesses as to what the average foregone $/bu on this farm was for cutting/dumping beans other than 13% at the elevator this year?

In the end, the weighted average moisture content of beans harvested on this farm this year was 13.043% measured on the elevator's new-style moisture sensor that gets the average moisture content throughout the sample. Dryest bean load was 10.0%. Wettest load was 15.5%.

Closest guess gets bragging rights and maybe the opportunity to quote us a new bin.
