| I have to make a decision soon about how I will manage fertility for my corn crop this year. Owned ground, central minnesota, medium-heavy soil (not sand).
Options:
-Broadcast urea/potash preplant, incorporate, run dry starter 2x2 with all my Phos and some K / N / S (all N down by planting time)
-Broadcast ESN/urea/potash preplant, incorporate, starter as above
-Broadcast some urea/potash preplant, starter as above, topdress urea later
The weather pattern the last 2-3 years has been a wet June, followed by a relatively dry summer. So I'm kind of leaning towards doing all preplant and saving the extra topdressing trip through the field.
My co-op is recommending a 60:40 or 50:50 mix of urea:ESN.
ESN has a hefty price premium - does it make sense to do in a preplant situation as I'm thinking about? Tempted to go with all urea. It will be incorporated via traditional tillage. | |
