Subject: Fertilizing cover crop

Douglass Kansas
Planting with drill 35 lb rye, 3 lb radish, 2 lb turnip, and 5 lb winter oats tomorrow after corn before soybeans that will be planted in late May or early June. Corn yield 160, 125 lb N applied for corn and 25 lb P on a soil with 35ppm on P before corn, 2.5 OM. Deep river bottom soil. Was double crop soybeans last year and there is still some wheat straw on the surface.
Cover crop goals
Suppress weeds, reduce erosion, mulch for soybeans, increase OM
1. Will the radishes get much bigger if I add in furrow fertilizer?
2. Will in furrow fertilizer(dry) reduce the stand of radishes or tunrnips?
3. I know the rye will get big in the spring after a low yielding corn crop when planted at this time of year. But will it get big after this corn crop if I don't add some fertilizer?
4. If I do fertilizer how mush should I use? I was thinking if I did add fertilizer it would be 18-46-0 through seperate box on drill.
