Subject: RE: Fertilizing cover crop

Martinsville, Ohio

Great question.  My standard application is 100 lbs AMS at every harvest to stimulate the process towards the next crops.

Looking at my soil and tissue tests I often come up with a dry application of

100 AMS

100 or more MAP

100 or more Potash

blank pounds of Boron, Zinc, Mn, maybe Copper, sulfate forms used where available

35 lbs of gypsum per inch of rainfall which this year is another ton per acre, we have had over 50 inches of rain since application last Oct 1 area.

Many will cut this out this fall with low prices.  Many will not.

I am looking at a continuous soil health soil improvement versus return on investment.  What I have done the last 10 years will help me through these tough times.

I want to keep my soil at a healthy balance and I am not there yet, don't know if I will ever be but I keep trying, keeping my budget close at hand.
