Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | Just for a test, on 10 acres, with 2 different varieties, with soybean population at roughly 78,000 - 83,000 using 19" rows (JD7200; 38" corn planter, with 19" interplant units) Old style corn disc, would be 30 cell, but with 19" rows, they would create a double rate verses a typical 38" row spacing. So, corn at 33,000 setting would be equal to soybeans at 66,000 (on 19" rows), thus if I sped up ground drive system by 1.25 ratio, = 66,000 x 1.25 = 82,500 soybean seeds planted with these old style corn disc. Looking at JD7200 38" corn chart for 33,000 x 1.25 ratio = 41,250 setting, which is easily attainable, per the chart, but do recommend a MPH speed at 2-3.5 MPH. (it is only 10 acre experiment) Question: Has anyone tried those old style corn disc, on soybeans? (note: the typical 108 cell soybean disc's holes tend to look larger than the old style 30 cell JD corn disc) Thanks
I know some guys, have got the E-set corn disc to work, but I would have to buy an additional 7 more complete E-set kits, (for the interplant units) to get all 15 rows to work, at roughly 15 -18 inches of vacuum. Thus my thinking of trying those old style JD standard vacuum 30 cell corn plates, at maybe 8-8.5" of vacuum, if it would work. ???? |
