Subject: best tire for 4440/4450?

Hey,my neighbor just bought a 4440 and a 4450..both 2-wd with Quad tranny's..tires are needing changing on the rear..he was wondering what would be the best tire make and size to get..the 4440 currently has 18.4-38 Firestone radials and the 4450 has 20.8-38 Michelin's..he is basically gonna do light jobs like spraying,planting,etc..with the 40 and do tillage with the 50..he doesn't have a computer, that's why i'm helping him out..any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just want to know if he is wide or narrow row? (40 vs 30) If he is willing to spend the money I would go with a set of 18-4-42 on both. He would have to buy the new step-up rims and the rubber but it makes them both better tractor's. I would look at Firestone and Michelin's, but stay away from Goodyear. Goodyear always seems to piss you off somehow, I know they have me in the past....my .02 cents worth

Have heard good things about the Michelin Agribib tire, but they are big $. We run Goodyear Dynatorque radial tires. Just put brand new 18.4 38s on the 4440 and the 7220 magnum has 18.4 42s and 14.9 30 (I think) on the front. We have had good luck with these, they are not too spendy and seem to wear really even so you can use all of the tread if you want. I don't know what Fred's problem is, maybe his dealer is crappy. I would say do not get firestone 23 degree bias ply tires. The radials are supposed to be good, but the bias plys had to be replaced at 50% tread (this was on the 4440) because they were pinching the tube near the end of the lugs and $100 per repair plus 1/2 day down gets old fast.

Have a day.
