Subject: Cummins 8.3 crankcase breather removal

eastern sd
Put a reman 8.3 in a CIH 7110, everything works good but the crankcase breather elbow on top of the valve cover is leaking oil. I did not realize it had an oring on it when I was putting it together and I reused my valve cover so I never removed the elbow. Now I see on the parts book there is an oring on it that I should replace but as I look at it I think it can only be removed with the valve cover off. Is this right or is there a way to get it out without removing the valve cover. Wouldn't be that big of deal to get a new one if I broke it but don't want to drop a piece of it down into the head.
