Subject: Scale-Tec REAP update

Last year I switched from Agrimatics Libra to Scale-Tec REAP. What initiated the process was that I was adding a second graincart. At the time Scale-Tec was running a promotion and I was able to buy two Scaletech systems for the pretty close to the cost of 1 Libra system so I figured I would sell the Libra (which I still haven’t done for some reason) and have the same amount of money invested.

After looking into it I found another advantage which was that you only need one subscription for Scale-Tech. On Agrimatics every device you want to access the cloud needs a subscription. I wanted at least 3 devices so over 10 years the Scale-Tech setup would save me another $2,000.

The first year I ran it, I had some small issues. I don’t even remember what they were for the most part but I think the major ones were operator error. I do remember being frustrated that I had to enter the password very regularly. I also remember feeling like the Libra app was more polished.

This year they released the REAP 2.0 app and it has really been flawless. I’ve really enjoyed using it. It is polished and there are no password issues. It just works.

With REAP you still need your Digistar scalehead in the cab. Ideally it will be an auto-log scale head.

You take the REAP module, plug it in to the serial port on your Digistar scalehead and then you put an iPad in the cab and the iPad connects to the REAP module via Bluetooth much the same way as the iPad connecting to the Libra module via Bluetooth.

I have some attached pictures.

Agrimatics Libra still has some advantages over Scaletech REAP:

1. You don’t need any scale head in the tractor
2. You don’t need any cables between the tractor and the cart
3. You don’t need a PTO sensor to tell when you’re unloading.

But REAP has some advantages too:

1. Cheaper subscription
2. If something goes wrong with the Libra module (unlikely but battery dies or hardware malfunction) then you have no scale. If something goes wrong with REAP (also unlikely), you can fall back to the scale head as a backup.
3. Possibly cheaper price to purchase? Don’t know how that has changed
4. One unexpected benefit for me was how helpful Scale-Tec is. Agrimatics tech support was good too but Scale-Tec is better and it’s nice that no matter what your scale problem is, Scale-Tec can fix it. Whether it’s weigh bars or advice on how to repair damaged wires or scale heads or REAP or or or, it’s a one stop shop for making scales work great.

I’m a very satisfied customer.
