Subject: 4430 steering

Cartwright, McKenzie County, North Dakota, USA
Have an issue with the steering gear (late) on a JD 4430. The centering pin #25 has overcentered in the bore and will not come back down to center as needed. I have tried lots of things to get it to move but no luck. I am trying to work on it without removing the loader and side frame to get to the plugs. Even then I am not sure I can get it. The pin fell out when working on the pinion shaft and was fairly easy to put it back in until it slid past center, it should turn as easily down as it did up. Any ideas on how to compress the spring and pin in order to roll the piston back so the pin is centered and the gear teeth are vertical. See diagram.
