Subject: JD 4020 hydraulic front drive

oregon

We have a 4020 with hydraulic front assist that was working fine but leaking a little oil on the right side. Dad sent it in to the local dealer a few winters ago to fix the oil leak and it has not been working right ever since. Shop foremen come and go and mechanics come and go and nothing has been resolved.

When you flip the switch to either low assist or high assist it lugs the engine so you know the pump is working harder but the front wheels aren't assisting or barely so. When it was working properly, you could see the wheels spin occasionally as you worked the tractor and you could feel the pull as the front assist engaged. Now, you can't feel a thing.

I'm chalking up the frustration with the whole thing as an expensive, unneeded lesson.

I'd like to get the front wheels going again. Are there any guys around that have worked on these back in the day, say the 1970's? Thanks
