SW So Dakota | This has happened quite a bit recently with our hay millet and oats now that I think about it. These are fields that get manure, about 20 tons per acre of pen pack. We also inject about 60 pounds actual N through pivot. I used to think only drought conditions caused high nitrates in hay but that obviously is not the case. Two years ago we put a pass of 32-0-0 on fairly late in the growing season and I thought that might be to blame so last year we applied all our N early in the season and still had a problem. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to avoid it in the future? | |
