Franklinton, LA | I agree with you about going to Café du Monde for beignets and coffee or hot chocolate. However, this café is a few blocks east of Jackson Square. It is in the west end of the French Market. By the way, you could get a box or two of beignet mix and make them at home.
If you want to impress your daughter you could take her and some friends to a Jazz Brunch at the Court of Two Sisters on Royal Street.
Before going to New Orleans you could get your daughter to do a web search for Jean Laffite and Marie Laveau. Reading about these two colorful characters from days gone by would be interesting.
