I need another hay ring. The Tarter 2 piece heavy duty design at Agrisupply is about the same price as the County Line 3 piece heavy duty ring at Tractor Supply. Both weigh 185 lbs. Does anyone have personal experience with both?

Get a Behlen with the skirts and chain sling. Have two going on 2 years. Longest a normal ring lasted was about 6 months.

To answer original question...I've had both. Three piece rings seemed to hold up a little better...but 6 months was what I got.

I don't have one like that locally available. I needed to buy today.

I am curious what happens when you put a bale with surface spoilage/deterioration in a chain cone style feeder? It looks like they would have to eat the spoiled hay it to get to the good hay.

No experience with either, but the Countyline one in the picture is 2 pieces. Looks like the same feeder in both pics to me, and they weigh the same.

Look like they’re both 2 piece, I’d lay money on they’re made by same person. If not then one is made by applegate.

I dont know if you can get these but they are good feeders for the money. I have had them last 5 years and still good. They are heavy. $425 CDN. http://www.martinshayfeeders.ca/Pages/H97.html

I bought 2 Tarter hay rings 3 years ago and very satisfied.I think they will last 3 years more easily. The TSC rings just never held up for me more than a couple years. The welds on the TSC rings were terrible.

cowboy art with muffler pipe. Find something built with at least schedule 40 2"+ pipe. You could buy 7 of those for the price of one of playinthedirts masterpieces. Everyone is looking for ways to reinvest their MFP lottery winnings these last few days. Trump sure knows how to fuel the economy.

seems all the guys wanting paid in cash are just trying to avoid paying taxes on their profits, if we all operated like that our government would go broke and chaos would erupt, besides then they'd be burdened with a guilty conscious for not paying their fair share

I have some made similar to this. Has rod abiut 3" apart for the skirt. Does not have the cross pieces in the middle if the bottom.
Easy ti mive with loader with grab fork and tough enough to stand up to it.
Good as any for hay waste & after 3 years, still loik like new minus some of the paint wore off.

I’ll say it again. Any feeder with no bottom skirt is junk. Just plain stupid to not have a solid bottom to keep hay in.

I’ll gladly take them cause they’ll last 6-10 years. Your skirted ones fall off in first couple years.

I’ll comment here to the discussion there are some 8’ round feeders with horizontal bars for skirt, our experience has been broke legs on calves.

Here's my favorite. http://www.jandlhaysavers.com/our-products.html I especially like the ones with the rubber tire base as they should last forever. Divide the price by weight to get a cost per pound. You'll find that these are cheaper per pound than the farm store tin cans.

just think of the profit in those things, they probably get the tires for the price of trucking as they are an environmental waste to the guy who replaced them, then they have about $100 in pipe and another $100 in labor to glue it all together.

Get a real feeder. Going on 20years with a 2 7/8" and 1" sucker rod with the bottom skirt. Bottom skirt is made from real metal, not popcan tin. Doubles or singles. Lift off with grapple and bucket clean it out and put it back. It's been in manure/slop half it's life. You can get a little rough if it's froze down and if you bend anything you can actually weld on it with success. My opinion.

I would recommend you walk away from both of these. We prefer the century poly bale feeders. They are nearly indestructible and don’t cost that much more than the feeders you are looking at now. You can handle them with a loader without damaging them and they come with a guarantee if you can find a way to damage them. Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately I needed one immediately. I much prefer solid welded rings but they have a long lead time.
