Finally got some cattle moved into the barn we rebuilt after summer storm damage. We ran 240 7 wt heifers through the chute today for injectible wormer and a synovex one f implant. Previously they were in 2 -120 hd pens but we combined them today where they will stay till April.
Looking forward to next week, we will have 3-120 hd pens empty, and a 50-75hd dirt lot available soon as well.
The set of black steers on dirt were bought 2 wks back weighing 650. Put together out of sale barn cost 136. I am going to continue to buy the heavier end of the calf run, they’re cheap and it takes no time to get them to 850, which have been bringing upper 140s fob farm in this area. These bigger calves are a breeze to start compared to the 4wts, mostly just been turning them out without touching them and running Ctc in the feed. Have pulled a few to treat but been really manageable. We work them, a bovi 5 and ultrabac 7 at about day 35-45 and that’s it. By day 70-80 they’re slicked up. I’m happy to have empty pens, it’s a good time to be backgrounding cattle right now
