In addition, many ‘free’ stock screeners are available on the Internet. A very popular free stock screener is provided by finviz.com in the form of interactive on-screen spreadsheets. Although finvis provides paid subscription service for interactive spreadsheets parsing, those spreadsheets may be configured on screen then copy/pasted into your own spreadsheets and saved as csv files, Those csv files then may be read into a pandas data frame and parsed from that data frame. In other words, web scraping.
As an example the attached chart shows current and forward PriceToEarnings (PE) ratios and EarningsPerShare (EPS) for trailing 5 years and next 5 years for a list of value stocks that were parsed from a finvis scraped LibreOffice calc spreadsheet. Forward numbers shown in that chart are analyst estimates. Microsoft excel may also be used for web scraping.
