Subject: Rimrock vs Montezuma

I’ve have Montezuma boxes in the trucks for years & enjoy the organization & convenience. However, it seems like I’m constantly sliding it around the truck bed & strapping it down out of the way when loading something big & awkward in the bed (pallets, tires, etc). My question is for those with the Rimrock boxes how durable are they? How much do you dare load on top of it? How do you organize wrenches sockets etc? A flatbed is out of the budget & I have a trailer but often it’s a PITA to hook unhook etc for 1 pallet or a small load. Which would you prefer?

Don’t know about Rimrock. This is how I have my Montezuma it works pretty good and have plenty of bed space and can pull goosenecks but I have a long bed truck.

Have a rimrock and love it. Especially now that the pickups are getting taller. If you have a 5th wheel, they make a 3 door box with a recess in the middle so you can hook up to the factory ball. I have the 2 door.

The Rimrock is built not far from me. They are tough. My neighbor has one and it gets stuff set on it all the time. No problems. For pulling a gooseneck, it has to be a shorter box, then you crank the gooseneck higher, back up, lower. Not the best, but works.

How much weight is it actually rated for? A tote of chemical seems like a lot. That’s the only reason I’ve never looked at one.

I've set a 265 gal shuttle of Powermax on it and never though twice about it. Had a honda 4 wheeler on it many times also, bouncing down some no so great west river trails. I will also add it seems to do a good job of keeping water out of the box.

Rimrock +100, very nice box very happy with mine, on their website they have a pic of a truck up on one. I think it would be pretty hard to hurt one.

A lot. The toolbox is probably heavier rated than the box floor of the pickup itself. Rimrock is a heavy SOB though, noticeably affects the handling of a half ton pickup.

This summer we got two new Ram 1500 pickups, mine got a Montezuma toolbox and my cousin’s got a Rimrock. Mine seems more organized, his holds more stuff. As stated before, the weight difference is significant. He can haul larger items but the load height is way up there. I can grab tools from mine faster. His installed faster, with the Montezuma its well worth taking the time to make a proper mount.

I had Montezumas for years loved them, then i bought a Rimrock with gooseneck and i love it also. I think my ideal setup would be a Rimrock with a Montezuma just so i can keep my wrenches and sockets organized better. The Rimrock is way overbuilt not sure anything can hurt it, should last many many years i could get some pictures later if you would like to see my setup thanks.

deeper, hold more tools, has slider trays to hold more items, i have a montezuma and its a good farm box, the baum box is more for an actual tech because you can organize more tools in it. If you wanna get all technical its just another slope front tool box yaaa....

Cjs- how do you like that power box? Been looking at one for a year or so.. keep talking myself out of it. You have the exact set up I've been wanting when I purchase a new truck this spring.

I've been looking @Rimrock box.for a while. I like that they aren't as tall as a weather gaurd or decked box. I will be purchasing one when I get a new truck this spring, but for the last year I've been using a box I made from wood I had lying around in my shop. Been supprised at how durable it has been for as little money as I put into it. I know the Rimrock Facebook pages has a lot of pictures of trucks with their boxes ( more than the website) and it shows a lot of trucks loaded with pallets of seed, bottled water, even a scissor lift on top of one in a truck bed. Here's my setup........
