While not mentioned in the article, I think that removing the battery from the key fob would be another way to reduce the risk and add another headache.
One recommended method I plan to avoid is storing the key fob in the microwave. With as air-headed as I am, I would probably end up with cooked key fob. To me, that doesn’t sound very tasty.
