SE Kansas | 2 years ago this field was alfalfa, old existing stand. In the fall 2016, alfalfa was laid down and torrential rains kept it from getting put up. Spring of 2017, windrows were drug off to the edge of field and burned. Field was planted to beans in 2017 then wheat that fall. Beans this year are double crop.
These are current pictures, talking with the grower, strips showed up in almost same spot as last year in same direction. They are thinking it is caused from the old alfalfa stand/windrows. Upon intial inspection, my thoughts were wheat chaff from the combine. Combine cut the wheat north/south. Directions of these strips are more southeast/northwest. So combine chaff intersects both good and bad parts of the field. More of the chaff is gathered in the good strips of the field. Tissue test was taken last week, samples were near identical. I will try to attach the samples.
Noticeable heigth and color difference. Maturity was a bit delayed in strips of injured beans. These beans were forming seed on the top nodes in good areas and just forming blooms on injured beans. Grower said these strips have been present since beans emerged but was not evident in the wheat.
