Nunn CO | Hello all,
Like all organic farmers I have been looking for decades to discover the method to control bindweed organically. And other perennials for that matter. Obviously I haven't found it.... if it was easy we would all do it. Came across a interesting video and it got me thinking. What are your thoughts on trying to kill it by undercutting really deep like the video below. After a little research it appears they run these at about 30" plus or minus.
My theory is the plant below will take almost a season to crawl it's way back up and be weakened, especially if it's coming up into a growing crop. The the 30" of growth on top will be instantly summer fallowed at 4" and if the ground stays in fallow for another 60 days until winter wheat the bindweed might not make it through the winter with such a shallow damaged root system. So, what say you?
For the sake of argument let's not dive into how incredibly slow and expensive this would be on any real scale. One hurtle at a time.....
