North Carolina
Trying to help an old neighbor with his tractor. His ranges work fine but his electronic gears arent working. This is my first time reading codes but there were a few. The only one that said ACTIVE was EPC 306112.31 which says k2 and/or k3 solenoid circuit fault.

Where are the ke or k3 solenoids? And how do i test them? Thanks.

Are the other codes old codes if they do not say active?

When you lay underneath and take a look, the largest valve hanging down in the front is your clutch enable.  Off to the side still on the front is the forward and reverse solenoids.  The speed control solenoids are on the side of the powerquad  transmission.  Early tractors of that era used 3 and later models just use 2 valves to shift.  Just unplug the wires and I would bet you will find hydraulic oil slowly seeping through.  This solenoid that the oil is coming through into the wiring is your bad valve.

There are 2 solenoids easily seen on front driver side of tranny. There are 2 on passenger side protected by a skid plate. Which 2 are the ones i have to look for?

Im also assuming if i take the solenoid out then the tranny will dump its fluid out. Anyway to test a solenoid? What ohm should it put out if thats how you do it?

The two going down the right side are for changing speeds.

We had a 6420 one time that kept blowing a fuse for the PTO and the reverser. Turns out there was a wire bundle along the side of the transmission that cracked due to aging and was grounding out. Check the harness over really well. The best way to test is to swap solenoids. You will lose a little bit of oil....probably down your arm or on your face, but it's a cheap test. I'd swap your 1st solenoid with one of the others failing.
