Subject: Seed wagon/auger completed (warning pic intense)

Here is the final build pictures of refurbishing a Rust Evader Auger that has been in the top of the barn for probably 20+ and dates back to about 1988 or 1989.

I asked on here earlier if this place was still in business and made contact with the owner. I drove up there and picked up some  of the missing bits and pieces I needed as much of mine had been consumed by rust in it's previous use filling a planter with dry fertilizer and I had scrapped some of the rusty stuff several years ago figuring I would never need it again. So I had no patterns to go by for some of the stuff. Also converted over to poly segmented cupped flighting from the standard plastic segmented flighting on a SS hex core.

I bought the wagon from a nearby retiring farmer and he had recently had it sandblasted primed and painted and all new tires and tubes.

Recently I have been planting some 30" row beans back into previous year cornstalks and was back to filling the planter with the bucket brigade.

While I don't mind doing this I'm always looking to simplify things and like customizing things to suit my specific needs. I hope to farm for many, many more years and I know that father time will eventually start showing up so the need to start making things easier and less strenuous is beginning now. I am a one man show so that generally means slow steady progress anyhow.

I bought some Shoup poly box extensions so filling via auger will make things even better and require fewer fills. Filling the extensions with buckets would have been a bit challenging.

Many thanks to all who offered ideas and suggestions as I progressed though this build asking questions about various ideas, methods and solutions.  It was good to learn some new skills and try some new things when it came to making custom pieces.

It started out with a couple custom hanger brackets built from memories of what we had back in the day.

Then it evolved into building custom hopper mounts.

Then additional hose brackets for the hydraulic lines.

Always helps to have some old inventory of items that can re purposed and made new again.

Then I wanted to add a bracket for the Inoculator to hang off of.

Then followed conversations about compact power packs and ways to mount it to power things.

Which led to other posts about sheet metal fabrication and repairs.

And making an item that was requested on here previously.

The pieces I bought for the auger were already painted white but I wanted it all to match the wagon so that led to sandlblasting all the parts. Then we got into discussions of paint and primer and the issues there with temperature, humidity, solvents, and other related product issues.

Then that evolved into exploring and learning about making spiral hose wrap and removing glued in PVC fittings.

I like to take my time on projects and think through things completely. Some might consider that a waste of time and effort but I take pride in trying to learn about things and doing the best job possible the first time around.

While building I thought ahead that I may wish to disconnect the auger and remove it some day or store it flat for ease of storage. So it made sense to make a second cradle/bracket for the front of the wagon and also a  mid set of hydraulic disconnects for quick uncoupling instead of taking threaded hoses apart.

So after all of this it's time to finally put things together. A big thanks to the Ag Talk community for enduring my questions and numerous posts along the way.

I hope it inspires others to continue to share and ask questions and I hope the topics discussed in the course of putting this together were helpful to others in learning about all the things we discussed along the way.

A nice chrome handle (actually 2 pieces) found in a parts drawer probably been in there for 30 years. Nice to grip onto and guide the auger when swinging and cranking the winch at the same time.

Hope everyone enjoys the pics and thanks for indulging my long posts.
