Embarrass WI
I thought Hy-Gard was 20 weight, and Lo-Vis Hy-Gard was 10 weight.

I guess hydraulic oils use a different scale.

" Both Hy-Gard fluids
are multi-viscosity fluids with high-viscosity index. Low-Viscosity
Hy-Gard has an ISO 32 viscosity grade. Hy-Gard viscosity places
it between ISO 46 and 68 grades. "

Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa
I agree with Tim, HyGard is 15W-20W, Low Vis hy gard is 10W. found some chart that compares ISO to SAE. My 1959 Allis tractor manual says use 20W oil in the hyd. system, so in goes the Hy-Gard!!

Would make sense, I put hyguard back in my jd tractor recently, and with the cold weather, it is the most cold blooded tractor on the place this winter. Had basically no Hyd functions at -20 while the other tractors were still stiff, but functional with co-op oil.

Makes sense though if they are different weights

Hy-Gard is hydraulic oil.  It is the best hydraulic oil, there is.

When considering hydraulic oil, there is no heavy duty, super, ultra

whatever.

No, HyGuard is hydraulic/transmission fluid. It has additives for hydraulic systems (zinc) and friction modifiers for wet clutches. Straight hydraulic oil (like Shell Tellus) lacks friction modifiers.

Whatever...!  Thanks for that.  Good grief.

Hy-Tran is NOT the same as Hy-Gard. A guy here bought a 4440, everything else he had was red, so he put Hy-Tran in it just to standardize. When the weather got hot, the trans oil light started coming on. Switched to Hy-Gard, end of problem. I've seen the same thing with low-vis Hy-Gard, so I would say that's more equivalent to Hy-Tran.
