Hope everyone is not getting tired of my follow ups on these simple ideas? Posted about cutting spiral hose wrap from black poly tubing in this thread. https://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=760519 Oldbones made the suggestion about driving the poly with a drill. (Thank you for the great idea !) Did some more digging around in my surplus inventory and came up with a rubber stopper with a hole through it. Simple bolt through it with a washer and nut which squeezed the rubber enough to expand and make a friction fit inside the 1" poly tubing.

Next I dug around and found a couple pieces of PVC pipe. I cut 8" lengths of each to serve as a guide to clamp right before the knife. This would help guide and hold the poly at the right place in front of the knife and help to straighten the inherent curve of the poly coming off the coil.

Did the same thing with the 3/4" poly with a smaller diameter PVC pipe for a guide.

Here are the guide pieces of PVC viewed from the end.
I did not have a small enough rubber plug for the 3/4" poly so I cut some rubber hose and it collapsed enough to get pretty tight but I did have a little slippage with this set up since it does not expand uniformly.
Edit: Not sure what is going on with video links just go to the actual album they are at the bottom of that page. https://imageevent.com/vprb/polypipespiralwrapcutter This whole rig is ridiculously easy to set up and the results are pretty amazing in my notion. Thanks for indulging the long posts on this. It simply had to be shared with the Ag Talk community. |
