My trustee battery charger seems to gave up the ghost.
What’s the best heavy duty battery charger for the farm?
Lots of power for semis ,tractors, pickup and cars .
With good clamps that work on all the different batteries posts. Well built durable to survive riding in service truck occasionally and good wheels!

This is only true (I assume) of their more expensive products. I have two of their lower end products that I'm not in love with.

I have these two:

Surplus center has a 200 amp Diehard that I am very happy with and at $119 it is cheap enough that a whoops won't tear me up.

Associated. After going thru seversl name brand chargers I bought an Associated 6002B. Have had it for over 10 years, in that time only thing I've had to replace on it was the timer. Dad had one when I was a kid 60+ years ago, thing set outside for seversl years, brother still uses it.

Northeast Missouri
A few years ago I bought an RN model 52PY from Rizk Industries. It has been trouble free and has not been pampered. It has started combines and semis and works great. It can be carried anywhere, which I wanted (not a charger on wheels). It has a UL rating of at least 550 amps for starting. Be aware there are two ratings for battery chargers, the manufacturer rating (exaggerated) and the UL rating (the REAL rating). Always compare the UL rating if it's available. I would buy another of this charger in a heartbeat. Heavy duty all the way. Saw it online for $360-something. You won't be sorry. A friend of mine got one as well and he likes his as well.

I have that same battery charger and also I have an associated 6002B

They are both USA made chargers. After several years I can't see what one charger has over the other. The Rizk charger is quite a bit cheaper. That 52PY is on heck of a charger for the money.

They are both great chargers. For what I do, the 24 volt in both of these is a life saver.

Looked at the chargers on Rizk website and was ready to order but changed my mind after reading reviews on Yelp and a google search - beware

We've had good luck luck with the bigger Craftsman chargers but ours usually die from being driven over before they die from natural causes.

Wright County, MN

A few (10?) years ago Dad sent his now ~35 year old Century to an electric motor repair shop.  They replaced whatever it is that wears out on chargers and now it still works better than new.  Probably cost about what a new unit would cost, but it's got "heavy duty" guts.  It's a typical charger on wheels.  It will start anything from motorcycles to semi tractors.  Only thing it doesn't have is "auto-off".

Fix your old one.

My $0.02

I think battery chargers should all have a volt gauge.
Risk of explosion is much higher if you are charging over 15 volts. Timer and a low enough settings for a slow charge like a 2 amp is a must. Setting for boost is nice, but I rarely use that.

I assume 15V or higher is the only way to provide high amp transfer to the battery? I have never checked voltage at various charge rates but K have assimed most of the differences in charge rates were due to using different voltages?
