Subject: JD 4020 electrical schematic

I am working on a 4020 for a friend of mine. The lights haven't worked for awhile and have been getting a few other things fixed. My question is the light switch has been replaced and I can get lights to come on but I'm looking for a schematic that would show the layout of the light switch and where the wires hook to at the switch. I want to make sure I get the correct lights coming on when they should. It is an early model, still a 24 volt system, serial number is 67,946. I'm not at the tractor currently but if my memory serves me correctly, I had a brown, blue, yellow, black, red and then a green wire, the green hooked to a jumper set that went across the resistor built into the switch, which I assume is for bright and dim? Also, how should the lights come on in regards to switch position? The switch has 3 positions, L, B, and D. The difference between B and D is either one set on the fender is on or both sets come on when switched to B. Tia for any help guys.

Fruita CO
BS, that 24V system works just fine if you take a little time & effort to get out of the 12V-neg. ground mindset the whole world has been brainwashed into... :)

just a tish NE of central ND
Maybe so, but Im with # 6411950 on this one just for simplicity sake.
The whole 12 volt / vs/24 volt thing is like a herd of cattle running for grass and one or two are trying to get back on the truck because they have it better being without feed and water.......
Oh,, Just haveing some fun and its not meant to offend anyone.
Truth is 12 works(for the most part) if you maintain it and keep it in shape. There are 24 volts systems used in construction and some combines as of late as well. I believe some 8010 have 24 volt systems on their starters.

Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80

Have you tried John Deere parts website, yet; and look under "lamp wiring" {= they show some schematics}

http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.HomePageServlet_Alt

I'll add what is shows for a diesel, but they have others on the parts website, so this may not be correct for your application:

Thank you for the print out of the switch, exactly what I was looking for. I don't mind the 24 volt system, just like anything else you have to know how the system works and it's not that bad to work with.

There were at least three different wiring harnesses used in the pre side console 4020s for diesel and three for gas. 24 volts its sure diesel. I haven't tried lately because I have a shop manual with all the wiring diagrams for the pre side console 4020 (and 4010) SM2039, but in years past Deere parts counters have been able to print wiring diagrams from their parts computer.

L is all of the lights on which is 5 lights.
B is all 4 on the fenders and the rear light is red. The red light is a part of the white rear light but a separate bulb.
D is the outside fender lights on and the red rear light on
