Glenville MN SCMN | Our local John Deere mechanic that checks out our combine every year said that he has run across these cracks in the front of the shoe auger bulkhead on every 70 series. There are two cracks one between the first and second auger closer to the second and one between the third and fourth auger closer to the third that form where the shoe auger drive shaft attaches to the bulkhead with two bearings above the transmission and drives the shoe augers he thinks that the cracks occur because they only welded one side of the bracket. Here is a picture of under the rotor by the second auger where it's cracked not welded and on the back side by the gears between the third and fourth auger after it's welded. Our local mechanic said he has not found a 70 series that has not been cracked any just got done doing two total rebuild of that bulkhead. Our combine has 1400 separator hours.
Thanks
