Probably because farmers aren't making as money as they have been in the past. Low commodity prices are effecting a lot of businesses.

Built two buildings a couple of years ago. May be a little more spendy but you can't beat lifetime warranty. Very satisfied

Nice buildings, but not hard to build one better and cheaper. You can build any buildings to what specs you want and buy any quality of steel with it.

I just priced a machine shed from Morton this week. If I bought one they are booked up until next year before they could put it up.

They are about 25K more in price cpmpared to other companies but it is a better building. The other companies warranty is about half of mortons but I will be dead before it expires.

I agree on this 100%

They are very well built and the best part is when I signed with them they said they would build between this date and this date and they did. Here it takes forever to get a contractor to show up and due anything. I'm convinced some independent contractors don't have a regular job because they can't handle the structure working for another person.

Put up a smaller shop building -Morton was the highest about 5k above a Foltz & they were about 5k above a private contractor. Went with a Foltz. Seems like the spendier building companies have a better crew & a crew that has been with them longer-helps in giving us a better constructed building.

Around me atleast they have to be more money because they got to follow safety rules......................Amish don't, if their guy falls off the roof they just get another one. I watch numerous Amish pole sheds built, and then got to see a Morton put up, it was amazing the difference in build quality, the morton guys went the extra mile to pull everything square and plumb before the metal went on.........................Amish looked like a hut going up in a 3rd world war zone.

A few years ago we called our farm mutual insurance guy to make sure we had a new building on our policy. The first question he asked was what brand building? When we said Morton, he said good, we'll get a lower rate on insurance because they were the only company that came out and repaired their buildings after a wind storm hit some farms about 15 miles west of us. We compared prices from several good companies, by the time we got done comparing apples to apples there really wasn't much difference in price. You can save a lot of money by using cheaper components, no doubt about that. With building materials you usually get what you pay for.

This ^^^^^^^^ been wanting to build a shed and stopped by the morton sales office (about 30 miles away) of course no salesman was there but they would have one call me. never happened so i called them finally got a salesman gave him my dimensions he said a week tops we would get it figured up. a month went by no call so i call again got the same salesman he didnt have a clue who i was and had none of my stuff wrote down so i gave him my info again size and what not said he was sorry and he would get me a quote in a few days guess what 6 months no quote. I really should keep calling and bugging them but i am positive i will not be putting up a morton now because of this so it really dont matter what there quote is now. Other brands had no problem getting back with me so i know its not that hard

local builder here puts up Behlen steel buildings. We've done 2 in the last 3 years... one shop and one warehouse type. We never priced Morton but did a few wood frame types... too many details to talk about but only Cleary and QSI came in cheaper and that was maybe by $5,000 on a $85,000 project. That was just going to be a pole shed with a slab poured in it after the fact. With steel I have a 36" footing all the way around. It was a no-brainer... The ONLY drawback to steel is it's a little harder to finish out the inside where with a wood frame it's easy to start slapping up plywood or tin to line the walls if needed. Wick and EPS came in higher priced... and I didn't even bother calling Morton, maybe I should have.

Morton may be top of the line but I think 1/2 the battle is a good crew that is competent and prompt.

No. You can't. Is it worth it? I'm not sure, but you won't buy the same steel, the same paint or the same workmanship. Put your own building up with your labor. It won't be the same in 10 years.

I understand how you feel - went through that several years ago. In my case Morton was the only place that did get back to me, so I have a Morton building. Figured if the other places can't even get me a quote, how long would it take them to get me a building.....

Comparing escalade to tahoe isn't the only different. Yes the fit and finish is 1000% better. Get a hold of there manual for all the tin, every single piece of trim is though out in placement, every thing from the sliding doors to the man door is planned out down to ever little detail. It's also built heavier, materials are not the same. A 2x4 is not a 2x4 anymore, many grades of all lumber. Seen few sheds lately won't name names but same building morton has 2x8 posts company X is 2x6. Alum door frames are stronger, they are made thicker. Of course the steel itself is heavier. It's not hard to see these difference you just have to have open eyes and willing to accept it. I get every building doesn't need to be the best built but to just say there is no difference is just plain false.

+10. You can't see any engineering differences from the road until its too late. Heavy boards doesn't automatically mean its stronger, sometimes it just means that the structure has more weight to carry plus the normal snow/wind loads. Same thing applies to rafters, some rafter builders use what I think they call rafter grade tested lumber, others just increase from 2x6 to 2x8 for example. If the lumber quality isn't watched sometimes you're not gaining strength, just adding weight.

I cant argue this at all BUT.....
I have several pole sheds. Some are getting some age on them. In my opinion the only place it shows up is the doors. Morton sliding doors are the best i own. I have a older shed we put morton doors on. The sheds themselves will all be standing for a very long time. The cheaper made doors do require some work over time. There isnt a thing wrong with a Morton buliding but you can purchase a building for less money that will do the same job.

It all depends on the crew. You cant lump them all together. Local amish crew is booked a year in advance, Would be longer, but they refuse to book out further then a year. They do what they say they are doing, if any changes in schedule, they let you know.

Funny thing about Mortons was back in about 1989 there was a bad winter with Big snow on roofs & about 60 sheds went down in the area-90% were Mortons. Our Lampert Lumber shed stayed up but cracked 4 trusses-When we built this shed in 1975 it was 8000 cheaper than a Morton but now the doors are no good but the building still stands but has been retrussed with add ons. Seems like all brands get tired after 45 to 50 yrs-pole sheds that is.
