Subject: Condensed distillers soluables (syrup)

Got a couple totes of distillers syrup to try on about 20 600 pound newly acquired steers. I don't have a mixer, so free choice hay, free choice syrup, and hand fed feed twice a day. These cattle were brought in Monday night. Right off the truck they ran right to the syrup tank and started licking. Poured feed out and ran right to the bunk. Health has been great so far, and all of them will run you over to get to feed, but other than the very first night they aren't eating the syrup at all. Tonight I poured some feed on top of the syrup to maybe try to entice them to it. This syrup is coming from whiskey distillerys so I'm sure it's different stuff than what comes from an ethanol plant. Just curious on how long it will take these guys to start consuming a noticeable amount of the syrup. I was honestly afraid of over consumption at first, but now I'm worried about them not ever eating it at all. Thanks in advance for the replys.
