Subject: JD 8230 Variable Speed Fan drive

SE ND
Our 8230 has been leaking oil badly from the variable speed fan drive, I've read about the pip but the dealer says they aren't covered any more. We removed the whole fan drive to be brought in and have new seals put in. Dealer says the whole drive needs to be replaced and the fan hub needs to be taken off and have holes drilled on it for grease zerk. The number we were given was RE326848, and was told it'll be 5k by the time it's done. This sounds outrageous for a tractor with less than 4k hours. Any way to eliminate the variable speed and make it direct drive?
