Even though long since defunct for official advertising, you still see those scattered around CaseIH stores. Or at least you used to anyhow.

Each one is supposed to have an internal serial number visible only if you split him apart. Still, I'm surprised the ChiComms haven't started churning out copies.

SpecCast used to make a resin version. At $50 and only 10-inches high, it was less imposing sitting on your desk than cast iron 500-lb Old Abe but it still looked nice.

Last week at Mowrey Auction two sold for 5x0 each. I wasn't at the sale. Both looked good in the auction pictures.

There's an old man in my area that has one setting in his front yard. It isn't painted up and is setting in some weeds.

I remember back in the 60's the Case dealer where I grew up had one sitting on the corner of their lot.   I recall it even leaned to one side and they didn't mow real close to it even.   I've often wondered what happened to it.   I know what happened to the dealership.   It was one of the Titan dealerships that got targeted for closure a couple weeks ago.

Saw 2 of these at the Florida Flywheelers in January. Can't remember what they were asking for them.

Wish I had one.

We moved ours into the living room a few years ago after we saw one sell for $10,000. Dad bought it from the block man over 30 years ago for $100

Subject: Why "old Abe"

Blvd d'Espair Bowhill, Sth Aust

In  the ( I think ) understandable ignorance of a foreigner, I was going to ask   "why is it referred to  as Old Abe ?"
Even though i have seen the  thing several times in  my life, and have  a little knowledge of  the J I Case  Company.

But Wikipedia  came to my aid.

Interesting..
