Northeast Louisiana | Deere 7430 Premium.....if you go to the page it says, it talks about axle housing and gear oil, which conflicts with what the axle housing page says BTW, but never addresses the final drives. Doesn't feel like hydraulic oil, but doesn't smell like gear oil. Anyone know?

Nebraska | Gear oil in the hubs, 85-140, I actually run 80-90 in the 7330 but it gets used a lot in below zero temps and 85-140 is too thick for that I think. Deere also has 80-140 synthetic. Hydraulic oil in the axle housing

Ontario | Not sure on that tractor but my 5425 just takes hygard

East Central Illinois. 39.346676, -87.653484 | 7320 manual also has conflict. GL5 (85-140 I think) is used per shop foreman

Rosemont ON | 7230 premium and a 7510, 7230 had HyGuard in it when I change so just put that back in it, 7510 had 80-90 so just put that back in it. Asked the JD tech and said they where shipped with either oil from the factory and just put back in what came out so I did, no problem yet.

SW Ont | http://manuals.deere.com/omview/OMAL171429_19/?tM= Check Oil Level in MFWD Axle Housing
CAUTION: If the oil is hot, it may be under pressure. Unscrew the level plug slowly. Remove level plug (A). Oil must be level with screw bore. Fill to proper level, if necessary. Tighten level plug to 90 Nm (66 lb.-ft.). Always use a transmission oil listed in the Fuel, Lubricants, Hydraulic Oil and Coolant section. NOTE: The position of the level plugs varies depending on axle type.
Check Oil Level in MFWD Final Drives
A - Oil Level Mark B - Level Plug
CAUTION: If the oil is hot, it may be under pressure. Unscrew the level plug slowly.
NOTE: Change oil in axle housing and final drives after the first 100 hours of operation. Then change after every 1500 hours of operation or once every 2 years, whichever occurs first. Transmission and Hydraulic Oil
Use oil with a viscosity based on the expected air temperature range during the period between oil changes. The following oils are preferred:
Other oils may be used if they meet one or more of the following:
Use John Deere BIO-HY-GARD II™1 or BIO-HY-GARD™1 when a biodegradable fluid is required. IMPORTANT: On tractors with IVT: Only John Deere HY-GARD or John Deere BIO-HY-GARD II may be used. Do NOT use HY-GARD LOW VISCOSITY. Do NOT use BIO-HY-GARD.

Wisconsin | Hy-Gard in the center section and a Synthetic Gear oil in the hubs is what i like Maybe not your problem were your at but i have lifted GL-5 gear oil out with my hands at -20 up here so i like 75w90 synthetic in the hubs Hy-Gard in the hubs was showing wear on the thrust washers if the MFWD was loaded or worked hard

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I forgot what I used for oil the last time I changed. I had a rather unusual situation. I parked the tractor and got out to look at the drain plug orientation. Luck was with me and I had stopped with the drain plug on the bottom side. Since the oil was warmed up I decided to change it. I put a container on a piece of 2 x 4 so that it tipped toward the tractor and removed the plug. I then looked at the other side to see if I would need to move forward or back once the left side was done. Much to my astonishment, the drain plug on the right side was on the bottom also. It was not perfectly on the bottom but close enough. I expecting to have to get in/out of tractor several times when doing this alone. It is unlikely this will ever happen again, especially for me. Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | If I remember the story from service manager, they put HyGuard in the hubs at the factory, primarily because they have that hose right there. He suggested a synthetic oil to be replaced every two years on my 8000 series tillage tractor.

Woodham, Ontario | Usually gear oil, the 50K tractors with brakes take hyguard.

NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | When I bought my first MFWD tractor my trusted JD shop foreman recommended using synthetic oil. Now whenever I buy a MFWD tractor the front hubs get changed to synthetic oil regardless of what was in it previously, might cost a little more but I don't care.

Whitehouse | Seems to be lots of misinformation out there. The old ZF axles on 6/7series used 80/90 in the final drives. Anything with a Deere axle takes regular hyguard in the centre section AND final drives. http://manuals.deere.com/omview/OMAL201481_19/LX_OILFA1_19_30APR04_... 75-90 Synthetic in hubs and axle on all tractors no matter the brand.

Central Wisconsin | You should follow the manufactures recs. If you put to thick of oil in, the tolerances maybe to tight for the oil to flow threw properly.

South Central ND | We usually put 80 90 gear oil in both. Synthetic if the customer was willing to pay or if the customer used it hard. There were so many suggestions even hygard could be used. I finally came to the decision that any kind of oil is better then no oil. Not the best of thinking as I know the book recommends certain oils but I remember the old 9600 jd used 30 weight in the book which was later changed to hygard so as oils changed so did recommendations. I do know that if that 30 series has a limited slip you need to add the additive in the axle housing.

Central Wisconsin | I am not sure axle what axle a 7330 has. But I have a 7630 with a 1150 axle and it uses Hy gard ( I use Mobile 424 fluid) in both axle and hubs Edited by trebfms 3/13/2017 21:29

Southern Pa. | Good point on the limited slip additive. Check your tractor build spec sheet to determine what differential you have. Being as your from Louisiana, 75/90 would be my choice in the hubs at a minimum. I've seen more problems with the hubs than the center differential.
