SW Wisconsin | Located in southwest Wisconsin and looking at getting some bids for a steel building. What are some good companies I should be looking into. Looking at something around 66'x90'x18' with a 34' overhead door on the one end along with a smaller 12' door for smaller implements. Already received quote from Morton and felt it was extremely high, much higher than anticipated. Aren't many steel buildings in our area so not really sure where to begin. I do see some benefits to going steel but I'm sure it will be more $$.

SC WI | You get an Amish quote? I've seen them put up quite a few in this size fairly recently all look good, from the road at least.

NW KS | Being that wide I would be surprised if steel is much higher than wood.

Central nebr | Sentinel buildings. Albion ne Good company In my hometown Google the name

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | I have an 80' x 100' Star building. Been very good so far.

SW Illinois | Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. We had quotes on a steel building that were much lower than a pole building. The steel building had paint warranties that were pretty well non-existent. Just check into the details. We ended up with an 81x160x18 FS (Walters) pole building on a full foundation and have been very happy.

Sioux County, NWIA | Another nod for Sentinel.

MN | Sentinel, star, butler, Varco pruden, Nucor. Lotsa choices out there go look at what's around your area. Builder is the key part of process the buildings are pretty much same for most part. Especially down the road when you someday need service or to change/expand

Sukup is now offering steel buildings. Have been for a couple years now.

central Ohio | I have 2 Stars they will build it to your specs. My first one was put up in 1985 the last one was in 10 . The back wall is connected and the siding is still the same except for color as the old one has faded. Love there 2in deep ribs one the siding and roof, to me they have the best material in there. Just my opinion.. Joel

SW Ohio | Make sure to get a decent pitch in the roof, our Butler with 3" fall in 25' is having roof issues, would never build a flat roof again. One bonus is beam inside is rated for 3000# hoist, also wish ours was on a pony wall.

Hitchcock SD | Just put up a Hard Steel building this summer. Ours is cold storage but liking it so far.

Check with MPB builders in Ripon WI. It used to be Modern Pole builders. We have 2 machine sheds and the winery built by them. They use good quality materials and have a well engineered building. Chuck

I've got a Rhino steel building 60'x120'. Very well engineered building. The price was 10% more than a comparable wooden structure in 2011.

Sukup builds junk grain equipment , thin and cheap. I certainly wouldn't trust them to build a shed.

NEIA | We have a Topline and no problems with it so far. About 10 years old by now. It was the best bang for the buck at the time. Got the overhead door from them too and literary saved over half of what the local guys wanted for theirs. I was hesitate on that until I found out it was same exact door as the local guys! The only thing I would have changed is insulation. The fiberglass with liner steel does well but I think urethane would have been better.

s.c. north dakota | Our experience with Legacy was not good. The building itself is ok, but after it was delivered, it laid on the ground for over a year even with lawyers involved. Never again.

SOUTHERN MN | Around here all the steel buildings are Chiefs. We just built one last year and very happy with it.

NE SD | Never anything again in my yard with sukup name one it. Customer support in nothing and quality is poor on everything imo.

Northern Illinois | I agree with brudno. I am not that far south of you guys. I put up a new pole building 60X112x17 this summer. I had Tim Byers and his Amish/Mennonite crew from South Wayne area do it. I was very happy with the job they did and the value. The question is when you say steel building are you talking a steel frame building or just a wood frame pole shed? EDIT: Re read your initial post and understood now you are looking at a steel building. Edited by ILCORNGROWER 12/14/2016 08:06

SW Wisconsin | I'm talking about possibly going with a steel frame building. Would you happen to have any pictures of your building? We do have Amish in our area we plan to talk to.

25 years ago when I built my first shop the main difference in price was the foundation to set the steel building on. The actual building prices were very comparable.

Trempealeau County WI | Check out Brickl Bros out of West Salem, WI. They would be able to quote wood and steel.

West central Ohio | Around here I have been seeing more and more steel buildings. Several people I know that have a pole barn decided to build steel for the most recent project. Said the cost gap has narrowed. Two neighbors I know have lumberyard pole barns that are 10 to 12 years old and both said the barns are not holding up as well as they had hoped. Paint is faded a lot on roofs and they need painted. Built by 2 different lumberyards by Amish crews. One lumberyard out of business, so no help there. Said they use cheapest material possible to acheive the low price. Quality of workmanship depends on the foreman and crew. As far as steel buildings go, seeing Chief, Varco Pruden, Sentinel, Star, and a couple A & B. See quite a few Golden Giant, which are made here in Ohio. Some contractors are buying the building kits and using Amish crews to erect. Key to long life of building is put it on a concrete pony wall. Most around here use a 2' wall. Seeing some pole barns on a foundation or wall. Know of two smaller shops that are stick built on a wall. One is 40' x 50'. Wind and snow load ratings usually lot higher on steel buildings, but can vary a lot. Need to check to make sure it is rated high enough for your area. We have built a Morton, a Golden Giant, and have a lumberyard pole barn that was on a farm we bought. If I was going to build another today, it would be a Golden Giant if there wasn't a really huge price gap from Morton. We like the cathedral ceiling of a steel building for shop. We have 14' eave height with 17' tall doors and 18' ceiling height clearance the width of door down center of shop. One of the grain equipment dealers in the area said he would not sell any more Sukup buildngs. He wouldn't give any specifics.

NC | I've got a Nucor steel building. Priced a Morton out of curiosity, way to high around here. Really like my shop. The guys that put up my building have been doing it a long time but had never put up a Nucor said it was the best building that they had ever put up.

Northern Illinois | wiscfarmer, I have some pics but not of the interior. I will take some when I get a chance, don't know whereabouts in WI you are located but any where south or Southwest I'm sure those guys would travel. PM me if you want some info.

Glasgow, Ky | I 0put up a 45x75x16 Heritage steel building several years ago. Have been well pleased with it. Put Clopay commercial doors on it which are well built.

Sun Prairie, WI | Another vote for Brickle bros. They built our shop in 2011. Absolutely the best guys we have ever worked with. Top notch crews work was done ahead of schedule and under budget. If you would like to come by and look at our building feel free to contact me. Email is good. We are by sun Prairie

Eastern Iowa | I bought a uninsulated 70x100x20 Star building three years ago and three of us built it ourselves, with a little outside help here and there. It took a while to get it done but the cost savings were huge over a post or stick built shed on foundation at the time. Bought a SkyTrak and still had a good chunk left over comparing to Morton, Lester. One of my smarter decisions. An insulated shop might be different, though. Quite a bit more to that. But also possible your labor savings would be even greater.
