| yesterday afternoon, a local farmer used his Salford VT tool and air delivery system to plant several fields at the WIU Organic Research Farm to cereal rye.
I was impressed with how easy it was to dial in the rates and to clean out the tank at the end.
We used 3 different rates, ~ 15 lbs/a, ~55 lbs/a and ~120 lbs/a.
The low rate was used in a field with a diverse summer cover crop mix (sunn hemp, sunflower, mustard, radish and oats planted 8/15) that will be planted to pumpkins in 2017.
The intermediate and high rates were used in fields with corn stalks that will be planted to soybeans in 2017.
If we are satisfied with how things look in May 2017, we will use the field with the high rate for a no-till organic soybean experiment.
