NSW Australia | I am an Aussie agronomist, currently dong some R. & D. in small farm mechanisation in the developing world. This is mainly concerned with small no till planters, suitable for corn and alternative crops.
Recently Chinese manufacturers have released some compact finger pickup seed meters for $US70 each (ex-factory). These units may suit my needs.
However I have a question. What other crop species can readily be planted with finger pickup meters? I have seen in the literature that soybeans and sorghum (milo) are OK. However depending on country, other crops may also be planted with these meters. Peanuts (?) mung beans (?) Lucerne (Alfalfa), cereals such as wheat and barley (?) rice (?).
Are there publications anywhere that can assist? It seems practically all of the N. American studies have been done with corn.
Any help appreciated.
