nw NC | Thank you to those of you who ventured a guess in my post of 9-30-16 ( "Corn silage yield.... want to guess?") http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=660473&posts=2...
The calculated yield was
In pounds------ 35,515.879 pounds per acre
In tons -------- 17. 757939 tons per acre
Two guesses were close, one under and one over. They were:
dt4020 from Nebraska guessed 17.5 tons (35,000 lbs ) which was 515.879 lbs under
cflory from Kansas guessed 18 tons ( 36,000 lbs. ) which was 484.121 lbs. over
Calculations as follows
Row spacing --------------36 in. ( 3 ft. )
Number of rows--------- 4
Width of harvest area---12 feet
Length of rows-----------196.75 feet
Area of harvest---------- 2,361 sq. ft. ( 12 X 196.75 = 2361 )
Loaded weight of wagon---4,860 lbs.
Empty weight of wagon ---2,935 lbs.
Weight of chopped corn---1,925 lbs.
Corn per sq. ft. of area----.8153324 lbs./sq. ft. ( 1,925 divided by 2,361 )
Sq. ft./acre ----------------43,560 sq. ft.
Corn per acre --------------35,515.879 lbs ( 43,560 X .8153324 = 35,515.879 )
Tons corn/acre ------------17.757939 tons/acre ( 35,515.879 divided by 2,000 = 17.757939 )
Interesting that at plant population of 26,000, yield per plant was 1.3659953 lbs per plant.
