Virginia | We have a '96 K2500 that we just put a new ignition switch and battery in. I'm pretty sure the clock on the radio used to cut off, but now it does not, even when totally off with the key out. Any ideas? I saw on some other forums where people had this issue and said it ran down the battery if left for a couple days, but no good solutions.

The clock is always "ON" or else you'd have to re-set it every time you start the engine, if you want to have an accurate reading. Yes it uses battery power, but not that much, it shouldn't drain the battery even if left for a couple of weeks.

Liberty, MO | The clock in my 93 G 20 Chev van, the display doesn't show with key removed, and it will go 4-6 weeks without running battery down. Edited by olwhda 8/24/2016 12:57

You have the ignition switch gears clocked wrong. You are turning it into the accessory position instead of off. Need to remove the switch and reset it. INDY

My 98 2500 did just that. The clock stayed lit all the time and ran the battery down. My cheap fix was another factory radio from the junkyard. $25 and 20 minutes to change it out!

SE SD | If it only the clock display, no lights on dash, radio doesn't play, not accidentally in the acc. position, it is a defective radio. Have seen it several times. You can pull the fuse for the radio memory and get it to turn off but you will have to tune in a radio station every time you drive it. There are two fuses for the radio. Or put in a salvage yard radio or aftermarket radio.

Lantry, SD | The clock display wouldn't shut off on my 88' Iroc and it ended up being a resistor or something in the radio. I sent mine to a place and had it fixed since it was a Bose radio. As others have said a junkyard replacement would be the easiest.

Pilot Grove, Missouri | Had the same problem on my 96 K2500. Replaced the radio with another from a junk vehicle and fixed it. yes it will run the battery down if it sits for a couple days, never went dead if just sitting overnight. Patrick
