Subject: Water in oil on 466 john deere

Ive got a slow leak going in a 466 JD engine on an 8430 4wd . The engine was just rebuilt in the past year. I first discovered it was leaking about halfway through season, but it wasn't much. Its gotten significantly worse since then. I dont recall any water in the oil before season and it had been rebuilt in late 2015. I plowed and did a little field work with it in the fall, but not much else until planting. There is no film or oil that I can find in the water and it seemed clean when i drained it.

However, it seemed like it was using water pretty heavily for a new engine. I assume this means it probably burning it somehow because im adding gallons but only finding ounces in the oil. My biggest concern is a rolled cylinder liner gasket. I would figure that a new gasket wouldn't leak at all or would leak a ton if it was rolled, but Im not for sure.

The head was a used head that had a couple valves dropped in it, but it was completely gone over and remachined/rebuilt. They told me they vacuumed tested it for what it was worth, but I dont know if that really does much for testing water leaks. They did say it had heat stress cracks. The tractor it came off of ran pretty hot (210 hp+ 4630) and it was hard to keep cool. Stopping for a while to let the engine cool down was normal while working ground. Im wondering if maybe the head cracked more and started leaking after planting?

Ive heard that engines tend to run hot if there is a coolant leak, but the engine ran fairly cool. Probably around 190-200 degrees max over the season so it doesn't seem to be affecting engine temperature too much. Since about May or the beginning of June, there is about a cup if not a little more water in the oil.
