Early Test:
Gold Country 96-21ss- For you guys in WI this comes in a Jung bag. Guys in Iowa probably find it in a Kruger bag. Brand new. Nutech 5f-196am- No below ground insect protection. We will see how it holds up against the SS and AMX stuff. Very respectable finishes in FIRST TRIALS. Pioneer 9703 amx- New to me dont know much about it. Peterson 86s98ss- Brand new hybrid. Very limited in plots last year. Renk 596ss- Very high finisher in FIRST trials last few years. Won my mid season plot last year. Can find same hybrid in Latham bag (4859). One of my favorites. Croplan 3909ss- Brand new hybrid. LG 5501 vt2- The only other hybrid with no below ground insect protection. Won the FIRST trials for my area last year. DK 49-72ss- One of my favorite from last year. Did very well for me. Dont have many issues with Goss right now so I like it for COC.
Late Test:
LG 5499ss- Won my entire plot last year as Wensman 9325 around 225 BPA. Been dominate for a couple years now. Croplan 4199ss- New to me, but have been told its closely related to 5499. Pioneer 0157 amx- a very high yielder in my area last year. Good late season plant health. One of my P hybrid since 36v51. Gold Country 102-07ss- Brand new. Also found in a Jung bag and possibly Kruger. Latham 5219ss- New to me. Very high yielder the last few years. Data points to slow drydown. Nutech 5L-503- This is a new hybrid from Nutech. It absolutely crushed it in the U of M plots last fall as 0305. Dekalb 53-68- Had this in my DK plot last year. Kinda lethargic all season, but amazing late season plant health. Think it will be a good COC. Slower drydown Renk 680ss- Dont know very much about it other than it had pretty decent performance south and west of here as a new hybrid last year.
Finally get a chance to get a few pictures up. Emergence has been very slow. I had a lot of trash on top from last year and that kept the soil cool. I was worried that it would be much worse than it is, but things are actually looking pretty good. I did have some emergence issues in the early test on top of one hill. I may combine that poor area out of the test to even things up a little. The late test actually looks very good.
I did a little scoring of the fast emergence/ early growth. None of them are really bad, and maybe one or two stand out and make you say wow (49-72, 3909 5l-503 and 4199).
top to bottom:
Croplan 4199, Nutech 5L-503, LG 5499, Latham 5219, Pioneer 0157, Renk 680, Gold Country 102-07, Dekalb 53-68. All pretty even for the most part
Dekalb 49-72, Croplan 3909, Pioneer 9703, Gold Country 96-21, Peterson 86s98, LG 5501, Nutech 5f-196, Renk 596. All little more seperating these. Field gets a little tougher.
