| In corn which row direction produces the better yield, N-S, E-W? |
East Central Illinois | Back in our ridge till days with alternating strips the theory was N/S row configuration, provided better sun utilization ,thus in theory yield bump |

SWMO | Every one around here says N-S and the further N you go the better it gets!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, could not resist. |

| FWIW, seem to remember reading that tests done in Ontario Canada (I think in the 1960's or 70's) said N-S were better than E-W. One reason given was sunlight (as another user stated), another reason was that roots tended to orient themselves N-S as well so there was less root damage when doing inter-row cultivation. |
