Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | I, like many others have been pondering how the global economic situation affects the grain markets. Most of us intuitively understand that there is some connectionbut just what is it? Out of curiosity I plotted the weekly continous corn & WTI prices since 1983. While there isn't a perfect correlation it is interesting that there appears to be a high degree of correspondence, especially in the past few years. For instance you can see where corn followed crude quite closely between 2006 and the present except during the drought of 2011 & 2012 where it exeeded crude but that's just what you might expect.
You can't help but wonder how the actually connection actually works as well as wondering if we will need crude to recover before there's hope for corn.
