Plains of NW OK | Just finished up the second year in a row of disappointing yields, rain was too late to save a good crop this year. Like all farmers would say "next year is the year". Like most we have good loam ground and some marginal sandy ground. I want to try some new things to push up our stagnant yields and wanted to get help from the gallery. So far we have started to no till or min till on the sandy stuff to build OM and residue. We are rotating more on the sandy stuff with oats, milo, soybeans, and forage sorghum.
The good ground is conventional till with yields between 50-60 in a "normal" year. Can I push this higher? We always wait till October to plant, and top dress in spring. Starting next year we will be adding fungicide to the good ground at least, interested in thoughts on fungicides on the marginal ground. Any other tactics out there to try? Micronutrients? Less fert in fall and more top dress? Higher seed rates? Anything else? | |
