NC Iowa | I heard something today that made me think about something my mom used to say to her best friends in jest sometimes. I was at the computer so I thought I would look it up and see if it was a quote or something she heard in school or just made up.
I found the saying and it is an actual quote. my mom was born in 1915 and went to country school through 8th grade. this quote was from when the word 'queer' meant strange or unusual. like many others, now the word had been co-opted to mean something entirely different.
"All the world old is queer save thee and me, and even thou art a little queer."

she had many other sayings too, as that was a simple way to remember and pass on important life lessons that are remembered forever. I guess it worked as I still remember that and many others.
