| Wondering if anybody could help us out? Got a 6 month old heifer calf here that we noticed a couple days ago her head was swollen (eyes almost swollen shut), breathing heavy and clear discharge from mouth and nose. She was up and around but not herself. Had the vet out and he kind of scratched his head but mentioned black leg but had some reservations with that diagnosis. Our course of treatment is large doses of penicillin which we are still doing but not seeing a reduction in swelling although the weazing has disappeared. She is nursing from mother, eating pasture grass and defecating. Note: you can feel the swelling at the base of the ears also. I have consulted others and everybody is scratching their heads so i thought i would post here and see if anybody can shed some light on this issue. Would appreciate any feedback you have as we want to do what best for the calf.
