I changed the fuel filter on my 6400 for the first time since I bought it, and I'm having trouble bleeding the fuel system. All the owner's manual says is to turn the key to "On" and let the electric pump run for 20 seconds, then it'll start. Good plan if it worked. Any suggestions? This is the first green tractor around here for a couple generations so I'm still learning the ropes.

just a tish NE of central ND | Leave the key on and bleed it again maybe do it for a minute. It has a electric pump in the tank. Get the air out.

Midwest | Is there a air bleeder on the filter housing that you can open some when you turn the key on? A little ether helps also.

Dodge County WI | Open the bleed screw above the filter and turn key on. electric pump in tank will fill it quickly. I've replaced the pump twice in mine.

WY, OK | Yeah you have to have the bleed screw open or it won't work. If you didn't and now have pumped air into the pump you will need to crack the bleed screw on the filter, turn key on to get that air out then start cracking injectors and bleed clear through. If it is like our 7200 the bleed screw is a plastic knurled screw that is hand tight at the top of the housing, about half a turn is all it takes.

I messed around with it a bit more and got her going. I appreciate the advice on the lift pump - this tractor has a lot of hours on it and I'm not sure how much tlc it's had. Thanks again.

East-Central Ontario | Probably should have the fuel line replaced, I think every single one of that series sucked air through micro pores in the line at some point

North shore of Lake Ontario | Also the pump is a spring loaded affair that goes in the top of the tank and sits on a raised bump on the bottom. Tank can flex when warm and the pump will slide of the bump and the outlet pipe will become detached . It slides inside itself . The first signal of a problem is having to bleed the fuel system excessively especially when the tank is below half full.

They've had lots of fuel starvation problems through the years.

East-Central Ontario | That's a pretty cheap first place to start anyway
