Iola, Texas | I am bout to loose my mind on this knotter stuff.
History JD 348 2000 model new to me 2 years ago off and on minor issues. doesnt like 90 hp and loves 45 hp. Baled 600 bales not a single miss. Then would not tie at all.
So from I have been told I have replaced both billhooks ( probably needed) knives, bushings in the frame ( probably needed helped the slop ALOT) Adjusted needle big mistake, finally got it back decent location.
Yesterday in its test run it would tie for a few then miss a few. We tried slow speeds and higher speeds, thinner hay and thicker hay, higher rpms and lower rpms. Might be able to get 10 ties then a miss. One of the misses popped up a few times. see pics below
top pic is the most common issue. I have adjusted billhook tension since I saw a knot that did not come out. helps some. adjusted twine disk holder, no big help.
It is trying to fray the twine just under the knot on the underside. I saw one that was a little frayed but when pulled on it came apart in the know with what looked like a clean cut of the twine just inside the knot on the bottom twine from needle
Another issue that we know causes problems is the tucker fingers will do there job and go home then nextplunger stroke or two will come back in the tucked position and stick. then next trip the string will not be carried to billhook.
Need a direction to go because I am about to loose my oh what was that I was loosing, oh heck I'll find it with some help . thanks !
